Texas Bishop Slams President Biden’s Fake Catholicism Stance on Abortion

Published on

Joe Biden was questioned about “Catholic bishops” who demanded that federal tax monies not be used to subsidize abortion by a reporter.

Biden, a devout Catholic, became upset and retorted fiercely, “No, they are not all doing that nor is the Pope doing that.”

Biden’s assertion was untrue. In a letter to Congress, the US Conference of Catholic Bishops requests that taxpayer funding for abortions be stopped. In that letter, Bishop Michael Burbidge of Arlington, Virginia, the head of the Pro-Life Committee of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, said that congressional action was necessary because the government should never support the killing of unborn children.

Bishop Michael Burbidge, chairman of the USCCB’s Committee on Pro-Life Activities, wrote, “Protecting taxpayers from being forced to pay for abortion in violation of their conscience is a principle that has enjoyed historically broad support among Americans, regardless of their otherwise passionately divided views on the topic. It has also been life-saving.”

Biden vehemently backed that in the past. He held that attitude up until he had to compete for president in 2019, at which point he changed it to appeal to the liberal Democratic base.

But a lot of Catholics were angry that Biden implied that Pope Francis wouldn’t be against federal funding for abortion in addition to misrepresenting about the attitude of the Catholic bishops.

Even the Pope understands that Biden has “incoherence.” He also made an intriguing statement about Biden’s claims to be a devout Catholic and how those beliefs conflict with what he should believe as a Catholic last year: “I leave it to Biden’s conscience and that he speaks to his bishop, his pastor, his parish priest about that incoherence.”

Joe Biden was criticized by Bishop Joseph Strickland of the Tyler, Texas, diocese for attempting to use the Pope as an excuse for his behavior. He ripped Biden apart with no holds barred.

“Mr. Biden can’t be allowed to twist the words of Pope Francis in this way. I implore the Vatican press office to emphatically clarify that Pope Francis rightly calls abortion murder. It is time to denounce Biden’s fake Catholicism,” wrote Bishop Strickland.
