Nevada Substitute Teacher Accused Of Coercing 6th-grade Students To Kiss

A Nevada substitute teacher has been charged with making inappropriate statements, including asking the class if they have a boyfriend or girlfriend, and encouraging two sixth-graders to kiss.

Parents of pupils at Legacy Traditional School, a charter school in North Las Vegas, reportedly received an email regarding the teacher’s remarks on Thursday, two days after the disturbing incident. They were apparently horrified to learn about the remarks.

According to the email given to parents, the substitute teacher in the sixth-grade class used “inappropriate language” and pushed students to “kiss each other.”

“Who asks a sixth-grade student, ‘Who has a boyfriend and a girlfriend?’ Really, the kids are not here for that. They’re here to learn. What my daughter was telling me, no, that’s not okay. The principal needs to do something because just a simple email is not going to cut it,” Anais Gallegos, a parent with two kids at the school, expressed.

Robynn Bell’s child, who was a fellow student in the class, mentioned that the substitute teacher’s actions made all the students feel uneasy. Bell also criticized the school for delaying two days before notifying parents about the incident, stating that some parents missed the chance to address the matter with their children immediately after it occurred because they were unaware of it.

The matter has been reported to the North Las Vegas Police Department, according to a statement from Legacy Traditional.

“After school, it came to our attention that the substitute teacher, supplied to us by an external substitute teacher agency, made inappropriate comments towards students. The substitute teacher was not a Legacy Traditional Schools employee and will not return to a Legacy campus. At Legacy Traditional Schools, we maintain a strict no-tolerance policy towards any form of inappropriate conduct. The well-being of our students remains our paramount priority, and we recognize the importance of fostering a safe, inclusive, and nurturing school environment.”
