During her briefing on Thursday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre accidentally referred to President Biden as “President Obama.”
The president had named former MasterCard CEO Ajay Banga to manage the World Bank, but Jean-Pierre slipped as she made the announcement.
In the midst of gasps and laughs from the White House press corps, Kean-Pierre swiftly rectified herself, “So today, as you all saw just an hour or so ago, President Obama announced that — um, pardon me, President Biden! Whoa! Ahem, that is news. I know, I know. We’re going back, not forwards. We got to go forward.”
As Jen Psaki’s successor as press secretary in May 2022, Jean-Pierre has been a trusted advisor to Biden while he served as Obama’s vice president.
Biden, 80, who is infamous for making mistakes, has frequently referred to Kamala Harris, the vice president, as the president, most recently only last month.
In January, the president singled out Harris during remarks on immigration at the White House.
