Before the president’s State of the Union speech on Tuesday, first lady Jill Biden and second gentleman Doug Emhoff had a kiss on the lips.
As she moved through the crowded halls toward Vice President Kamala Harris’ husband, Biden was seen on camera shaking hands.
Before quickly embracing in what appeared to be a well-rehearsed kiss, the two gripped hands, smiled briefly, and then held each other’s hands.
Following the affectionate show, the two kept holding hands while Biden took a position to Emhoff’s left and Biden to her right.
The president’s wife and vice president’s spouse kissed, but nobody nearby appeared to be alarmed. Through the odd pecking order, the group kept clapping.
President Joe Biden praised the advancements made under his watch throughout the speech.
He spoke about a variety of topics, including the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, infrastructure, climate change, inflation, gun violence, police reform, abortion rights, domestic semiconductor manufacturing, and the creation of 12 million new jobs.
It was also the President’s third speech before a joint session of the US Congress. This was his second State of the Union Address. Joe Biden was attended by Vice President Kamala Harris, and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy presided over the joint session.
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris didn’t seem phased by the viral contact shared by their respective spouses as reactions to Jill Biden and Doug Emhoff’s apparent kiss poured in on social media.
