Deadly Attack on Civilian Target in Russian City

Published on

The second anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is February 24. The two states are not currently engaged in peace discussions. A missile attack in Russia demonstrated that civilians in both nations are in grave danger as the war continues.

Belgorod, Russia, close to the Ukrainian border, was hit by a missile on February 15. A toddler was among the six casualties of the explosion. Officials reported that five of the wounded citizens were children, while at least eighteen more were hurt. A commercial center and a school stadium were both struck by the strike.

The Russian military said that 14 missiles were shot down over Belgorod by its air defense system. According to the Associated Press, they claimed that an RM-70 Vampire multiple-launch rocket system seemed to have fired the missiles. On the other hand, other Russians reported hearing a noise they had never heard before. A new weapon type may have been utilized in the attack, according to social media rumors, but there is no proof of such.

Rumor has it that the strike occurred only hours after Russia’s forces attacked Ukraine. Approximately twenty missiles were allegedly fired into war-torn Ukraine by the military, hitting several locations and killing five persons in an apartment complex.

Previous to this week’s strike in Belgorod, Ukraine asserted that it had sunk a Russian ship in the Black Sea. Near the Crimean Peninsula, which Russia captured from Ukraine in 2014, the amphibious Caeser Kunikov was sunk approximately 2.5 miles offshore. Reportedly, the Ukrainian military attacked the ship using sophisticated naval drones. Supposedly, in the span of two weeks, Ukraine sank a second vessel.

These setbacks occur just one month before Russians go to the polls to choose whether or not to re-elect Vladimir Putin as president. According to experts, he has a good chance of winning the race.
