National Guard Black Hawk Crashes On Alabama Highway

The Tennessee National Guard reported that a Black Hawk helicopter went down in Madison County on Wednesday afternoon close to Alabama Highway 53 and Burwell Road.

According to the county sheriff’s office, there were no survivors. The families of the deceased are being informed.

The helicopter had two crew members, according to the officials.

According to the Tennessee National Guard, the incident happened during a training flight and no other military personnel or civilians were hurt.

Brigadier General Warner Ross, the adjutant general of Tennessee, said, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of two Tennessee National Guardsmen, and our prayers are with their families during this heartbreaking tragedy,”

“We are saddened by the tragic loss of two Tennessee National Guard members. Please join us in lifting their families up in prayer & support during this time of unspeakable grief,” Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee and his wife said in a statement following the tragic deaths.

It is “premature to discuss possible causes of the crash” according to National Guard Bureau spokesperson Robert Carver, and “the incident will be investigated.”

The Madison County Sheriff’s Department’s deputies are still on the scene of the incident and will continue to block off a significant portion of Highway 53 until at least Thursday afternoon.
